Why Should I Use Acupuncture?
When modern medicine can do so much, why use an ancient medicine like acupuncture?
The reality is that modern medicine is very good at treating acute injuries and life-threatening illnesses, but the bulk of our health concerns today are chronic, progressive, and debilitating. Pharmaceuticals have their place, but their overuse is now creating more problems than they're solving, and in some cases, they aren't even helping the problem for which they were originally prescribed.
What can acupuncture treat?
Almost anything that you would see your Primary Care Provider for, and even for some you wouldn't bother going to a doctor for, like colds and flus, can benefit from acupuncture. In Chinese Medicine, everything is connected, so any issue that arises, does so based on your own, unique set of circumstances. So when we fix YOU, we fix your problem, whether it's painful periods, high blood pressure, headaches, back pain, or an old sports injury.
How exactly?
That answer is a four year course of study, to begin, but as you receive these amazing treatments, you will be able to feel things shift with you. Often times, patients say aches and pains that they had previously accepted as part of life resolve when they weren't even being treated for that! Basically, acupuncture reminds your body what it needs to do. By feeling your pulse, looking at your tongue, and listening to your symptoms, we're able to create a treatment that is unique to you, and this is the biggest strength of Chinese Medicine--your treatment is entirely about you.
Can I still see my regular doctor?
Absolutely, and you should continue taking any medications prescribed by your physician. Often and with continued acupuncture treatments, patients find they are able to reduce the dosage on their medications, but that is something that you should discuss with your physician. Acupuncture, as well as Chinese herbs, can generally be used in conjunction with any other care you may be receiving; there are some cases where we do avoid the use of herbal medicine, but acupuncture, alone, can still be very effective.
